Photo Gallery

This is a small sellection of photos from my own albums, covering both AFVs and Aircraft. Some of the real thing, and a few models to come as well.

You are welcome to copy these for your own use, but I would ask that anyone wishing to use them in any form of publication should contact me to make these arrangements, or for any additional coverage of some subjects.

ZSU 23-4
This ZSU is one of the examples captured in the Gulf War in 1991. It is kept at the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop in Hampshire. When I took the pictures it was kept in the open, actually in the car park at the front of the museum. The exterior has some damage, especially to the radar dish cover on the rear of the turret. Inside, the control screens on the equipment had been disabled by the crew wneh they evacuated the vehicle, apparently by nothing more than a gun butt being smashed into them.

Belgian F16
Star of the show for paint schemes, the Belgian Air Force had their F16 display aircraft done up in this superb Tiger scheme, with its most impressive tail. Fairford 1998.

Belgian F16
The whole aircraft.

Dutch F16
Smart F16 of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, wearing a scheme to commemorate their 85th birthday. Seen here on the ramp at Fairford, 1998.

German Tornado
Seen at Fairford 1998, on the Friday before the display, this German Tornado lost the use of one of its legs as it moved down the taxiway. Fire crews stood by but it remained there all afternoon. It had been removed before the public moved in in force on the Saturday morning.

Mig 29
Seen at the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford, in 1998. This Hungarian Mig 29 two seater was waiting behind us ready to move onto the threshold to start his display on the Saturday of the show. I was fortunate to be in one of the Follow-Me cars for an hour, the vehicles which lead the many aircraft around the airfield to their allotted spots.

T55 Bridgelayer
Well worth the trip to the Muckleburgh Collection, near Cromer up on the North Norfolk Coast. This one is still kept fully operational.

ZSU-23-4
Detail from the ZSU-23-4 at Middle Wallop, showing the light arrangements, the vision glass and the small stowage bin on the front track guard. The marker light is the small one down to the right. One of the surprises to me was in the interior, where most of the equipment was labelled in English!

    To be further developed.
