Web Site of the Week

USNavy

This is the Web Site of the US Navy. I was amazed to find these high quality sites, all kept by the US Navy. If you have any interest in carrier aviation then this one really is worth checking out.

Model Producers / Dealers

Those in this section were my original links, but I have since added a "Manufacturers" page where I have put any links with the entry for the manufacturer. Hence some of these, and many others, you will find there. I've left these in place, and will add new entries under the other categories here.

Accurate Armour - Home site of the Port Glasgow based 1/35th model manufacturer andmore recently distributor for a number of other ranges, both 1/76th and 1/35th. See also the listing for the 1/76th Milicast range.

Cromwell Models - Another Scottish based manufacturer, check this out for their own range of 1/35th resin figures and vehicles, plus the original 1/76th range, which has had a couple of new additions in the latter half od 1998.

Dragon Models - Home site for this Hong Kong model company. Check out their news.

GHQ - Makers of superbly detailed 1/285th metal vehicles. You have to see the detail on these to believe how good they really are. Based in the USA.

Jaguar - A large range of 1/35th figures and other bits and pieces. I've only seen two or three of these, some very neat pieces nevertheless. Some of those listed look superb.

Precision Models - Some of the finest 1/35th resin models on the market. Especially the German artillery pieces. Quality of production and presentation of the models is as good as it gets, though they tend to be complex kits with a myriad of parts. Full illustrated parts diagram as well as highly detailed assembly instructions.

Tamiya - What can you say about Tamiya? I think most will know them. The site is in English by the way, and deals with all their R/C stuff as well as armour and aircraft.

Enygma Graphics - Buy reference photos of the real thing, both military vehicles and aircraft, all sold on CD. Check out their site for other bits and pieces as well.

Trucks and Troops - An internet based model shop from Belgium. Some interesting ranges available especially for the small scale enthusiast.

PDI Model Supplies - Run by UK dealer, Phil Smith, who are resellers on the web for CMSC range of models..

Lou Stener Models - Dealers primarily in 1/35 resin models from number of Eastern European manufacturers in particular, such as Panzer Shop, and others, they now have some smaller scale ranges and accessories such as 1/48, 1/87, 1/72 and 1/120 from Hauler in the Czech Republic and a whole variety of other unusual and interesting kits.

Model Clubs

Missing Links - Great modellers site, with best small scale discussion group in my opinion, headed up as "Braille Scale"

Perth Military Modelling Society - You really should check this one out for the number of links available through it, they are really wide ranging in topics, and one of the most useful single sources I have found.

Tracklink - A well know AFV modellers site, and one which you should see.

MAFVA - Home to the Miniature Armoured Fighting Vehicle Association.

UK Military Modelling - a very good UK site, run by John Harris for about three years now. Lots of useful sections, including more links.

Armor Modelling and Preservation Society - An American based modelling society, who publish Boresight Magazine through Darlington Productions.

Olive Drab - Real 'Green Machines' and lots of great references.

Furness Model Club - Very neat site from a local UK model club

Total Model - Broad based modelling site, and very neatly produced by Antar Howarth.

Battle Scene Productions – An interesting military modeling site with diorama showing what can be done using ready made and painted models along with some of your own modeling.  It showcases products from a number of manufacturers who support the site.

Military

US Navy - If you are into things like the US Carriers then this will interest you too.

REME Museum - Based at Arborfield in Berkshire, the museum has a super vehicle collection, some of which are kept further south at Borden in Hampshire. Useful photo archive.

Muckleburgh Collection - This excellent little museum is up on the North Norfolk coast here in the UK. A visit is highly reccommended. Items include a T55 Bridgelayer among many others, and they regularly run AFV's around a display area at the back. Then take a ride across the dunes in a Gama Goat. Really, really good.

MilitaryPhotos.net – A website that does exactly what it’s name implies.  Check out the forums.  I like the Russian and Israeli ones especially.

IsraeliWeapons.com – Another website that does exactly what the name implies.  Check out the still photos and the video clips of so much interesting Israeli AFVs

Personal Sites

On The Way - A very comprehensive and useful site from Doug Chaltry for AFV modellers, with a special interest for 1/72nd scale in particular

Tony Matteliano's Links - What must be the most comprehensive collection of modelling related links you will find all together in one place. I will never attempt to add all these links here myself, as frankly Tony already has most of them. Hence, go here if you want to find a host of new leads.

AFV Museum - Pat Storto has a neat site for small scale modellers that is well worth a look.

Mil-Mod US Army Site - Dutch based site of Wim Vink, and especially useful for modellers of US Army equipment

Warmour - a neat and useful site for armour modellers from Martin Dogger in the Netherlands.

Sherman Register - Great place for all Sherman enthusiasts.

Panzermaniacs - Excellent site run by a couple of fine French modellers, with examples of some very nice models, plus a photo collection of Tony Greenland's collection of super models.

Arcane Fighting Vehicles - By Graham Matthews, a site which concerns itself primarily with British Armour, tending towards the obscure, and also 1/76 and 1/72 models.

Henk of Holland - the website (new address as of May 2005) of Henk Timmerman of, not surprisingly, Holland. Henk has built the master models for a good number of small scale resin kit manufactuers, and details of these plus links, reviews and lots of other material can be found here.

Aviation Related Sites

RAF Liberator Squadrons - A personal site done by a friend at work, Gary Fowkes, dealing with RAF Liberators in South East Aisa Command in particular.

V2 Colour Schemes - One of two excellent reference sources for the V2, ideal for modellers.

V2 and Associated Equipment - The second of these two very useful sites.

Magazines

Military Miniatures in Review - This fine quality American quarterly magazine is refreshingly "different". What other model mag puts a flag on a recent cover such as "MMiR, A Totally Monica and Bill Free Zone"? No site as such, but you can E-Mail them at MMiR35701@aol.com .

Military Modelling - The magazine has been the home to Small Scale Scene since 1986. You can E-Mail the Editor at MilModMag@Compuserve.com .

Defence Journal - An English Language publication from Pakistan. The real armed forces, not models.

Booksellers

Landmark Books - English based book retailer. A new Web Site as of November 2000.

Armybook - Book publishers from Russia, not surprisingly specializing in titles on Russian equipment
